WoW Item Upgrades
Item upgrades, also referred to as "upping", are items or enchantments that improve the performance of armor and weapons. These upgrade components increase the level gauge of an item by a specific number of points. Their cost increases according to their rarity.
The melee PvP scene is highly influenced by an optimally rolled version of armor due to its ability reduce weapon damage.
Type-restricted upgrades
Upgrades are a vital part of the equipment crafting process. They can enhance the quality of an item, make it stronger or weaker, and even provide an additional benefit. They can also alter the appearance of an item. Some upgrades are universal while others are governed by specific rules for weapons and armor. Using the wrong type of upgrade could ruin a great weapon, and may even lead to it becoming unusable.
The general rule is that you should only upgrade a piece of equipment up to the level of the highest-level gear in its category. You are able to upgrade helms only to the highest level. Weapons on the other hand, can be upgraded to the level of a sword. This does not increase the weapon's power of damage, but it can decrease its trade value.
You can upgrade an item by using crests or flightstones. The amount of each depends on the level of the item as well as the slot. Universal upgrades
Universal upgrades are upgrades which can be applied to any type of equipment. This includes weapons, armor and trinkets. The upgrade components are typically random drops, but they can also be gathered from completing Side Quests. Universal upgrades can be temporary or permanent, and may be combined with Power Ups. They can be branching or linear.
Universal Upgrades start when "internal technology" can give sentient beings new capabilities they are unlikely to develop naturally. Implants and prostheses are examples of internal technology. This kind of upgrade is different from medical internal technology that seeks to restore natural capabilities. Instead, it is the beginning of an upgrade process that alters civilizations in a fundamental way. The universal upgrade is a complicated procedure that can take several years to complete. The process can be divided into two types one of complete success and the other of partial failure.
This is similar to the way resort upgrades are implemented at Disney and Universal. In the case of WDW, they usually happen because of operational issues like room availability or overbooking. In the case of Universal this could mean to transfer guests from one resort to another one that is open. This is not intended as an insult however in the current economic climate, it may be impossible to avoid.
In contrast to Runes, Sigils and Jewels which can only be applied to specific types of equipment (armor, weapons or trinkets), universal upgrades can be applied to any type of gear. In addition, they can be applied to multiple items at the same time. They are therefore more versatile than other types of upgrades. This flexibility can be a problem when upgrading items on a particular gear route. It can raise the level of items for all pieces along the path.

Like other upgrade components, jewels can be inserted into an item using a matching socket to enhance the item's. For example, a Garnet Pebble (gemstone) and an Adorned Garnet Jewel (jewel) both provide a bonus to strength, but the Garnet Pebble is only able to increase regular hits while the Garnet Jewel also boosts the player's strong attacks. Jewels can be found in all armor, weapon and accessory slots. They can also be used with some exotic trinkets or lower rarity trinkets that require a slot.

Requirements
WoW's item upgrade s allow players to upgrade the levels of their weapons, set pieces of equipment and trinkets beyond their current level of items from specific Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor sources.
